Professional car detailers use a 50% (v/v) solution of isopropyl rubbing alcohol to remove old wax from the car surface. Design a procedure to make a 50% (v/v) solution from store bought rubbing alcohol, which is 70% (v/v), that fills a 1-L spray bottle

V1 = initial volume = x ml

C1 = initial concentration = 70% (v/v)

V2 = final volume = 1000 ml (1 L)

C2 = 50% (v/v)

(x ml)(70%) = (1000 ml)(50%)

x = (1000)(50) / 70

x = 714 ml

Measure out 714 mls of the store bought 70% and dilute it to a final volume of 1 liter with distilled water
