Total clay = 10 pounds
1 pot uses 3/5 of the clay
Divide the total clay by the clay needed for one 1 pot
10÷3/5
10*5/3 ( invert the fraction when change division to multiplication )
10*5/3= 16.67' approximate 16 pots

A potter uses 3/5 of a pound of clay to make a bowl. How many bowls could the potter make from 10 pounds of clay?
3/5 pounds of clay makes 1 bowl.
10 pounds of clay makes say x bowls.
Using proportions:
3/5 : 1 = 10 : x
Product of means = product of extremes
(3/5)x = 1 * 10
Multiplying by (5/3) on both sides:
x = 10 *(5/3) = 50/3 = 16 2/3 bowls.
Hence, 16 complete bowls and 2/3 of 17th bowl can be made from 10 pounds of clay. Since 2/3 bowl cannot be considered as one complete bowl, the answer is 16 bowls.
