If x is positive (1/3) ^x = (1^x/3^x) = 1 / (3^x)

So when x = 2, (1/3)^x = 1 / (3^2) = 1/9

If x is negative (1/3)^x = 1 / (1/3)^-x = 1 / 1 / (3^-x) = 3^ -x

So (1/3)^ -3 = 3^3 = 27
