- What is the Chiculub crater?
- This is an impact crater located beneath the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. It is named after the nearby town of Chicxulub. The asteroid or comet associated with this crater is largely accepted as the one that caused a mass extinction event during the Cretaceous-Paleogene era.
- What are the Volcanic eruption, earthquake, tsunami or meteor impact had happened and their impact on Chicxulub crater?
- The impact created a hole roughly 100km wide and 30 km deep. It would have created winds in excess of 1000km/hr. It is estimated that there was also a mega-tsunami over 100m tall that stretched from impact to modern day Texas and Florida. According to researches there would also have been an earthquake as intense as a magnitude 12 at the epicenter and causing shockwaves equivalent to magnitude 9 all over the globe.
