Sounds like a construction to me so get out your protractor. Place it on a sheet of paper and draw a line from the center of its bottom to its right edge. Mark a point on the center of its top. Remove the protractor and draw lines to that point from both the left side of the line and the right side. Mark the left-side bottom angle as being a right angle and the other two angles as being 45 degrees. Since the sides opposite the identical angles are also identical (in length), mark them with the same variable (S or X or your choice). To find the length of the side opposite the right angle (or hypoteneus), use the Pythagorean Theorem, which says the square of the hypoteneus is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.
