Calculate the mass in milligrams of 3.16 × 10 ^ 20 formula units of Bi(NO3)3 · 5H2O. Enter your answer in scientific notation.

Alex O.

Im going to assume that this question is in scientific notation as 3.16*10^20. If this is not correct please let me know. Use the value you were given to convert from formula units --> mols --> grams --> milligrams. Remember, you got this. Before you start a problem like this always map it out: how are you going to end out in milligrams? You need to use the mol, avogadros number and the molar mass of Bismuth nitrate pentahydrate aka Bi(NO3)3·5H2O. Let's get to it: 3.16*10^20fu * (1mol/6.022*10^23fu) * (485.07g/1mol) * (1000mg/1g) = the answer to this question. Your calculator should put this number in scientific notation automatically. Use 3 significant figures. Let me know what you get. Please note: I am not responsible if this answer or guidelines are incorrect. Always double check your work.
