The ratio for that line is also called the slope, and it's the coefficient of X, which is a.  The ratio is a:1.  If your line equation is in a different format, you just convert to that format and read off the slope.  

 

If I guessed the problem wrong, then you need to tell us more about which particular X and Y you are asking about.

 

For instance, you may have a diagram of a triangle or rectangle or something with line segments labeled X and Y.  We'd have to know more about the figure to give more info.
