What would the scientific notation with proper significant figures be for this calculation?

I've tried a variety of ways and somehow keep getting the significant figures incorrectly.

(34.123 + 6.90)

divided by

(98.7654 - 5.126)

I initially thought it would be 4.38 x 10 (exponent -1) - unsure how to correctly type that on the computer.

However I've tried rounding up as well, and am still getting an error in the proper usage of significant figure.

Please help!

(98.7654 - 5.126) subtract them and cut off for sig fig like this _ _ . _ _ _

When adding/subtracting, the sig figs are dictated by "cutting off" place holders that don't have any numbers

When dividing the two answers, the addition with four sig figs dictates the number of sig figs in final answer

So, your answer in scientific notation is nice but should have four sig figs _ . _ _ _ x 10^_

34.123 + 6.90 = 41.023 = 41.02 (rounded to 2 decimal places since addition is being performed)

98.7654 - 5.126 = 93.6394 = 93.639 (rounded to 3 decimal places since subtraction is performed)

41.02/93.639 = 0.438065 = 0.4381 = 4.381x10^-1 (rounded to 4 sig. figs. because division is performed)

Sometimes the computer will accept exponents as E so try 4.381E-1
