On Monday, she purchased 4 hamburger kid meals and 3 chicken nugget kid meals, for a total of $23. On Thursday, she spent $34 on 2 hamburger kid meals and 6 chicken nugget kid meals. How much does each type of meal cost?

2x+6y=34 multiply equation by 2 to get x values equivalent, so

4x+12y=68 now subtract firs equation from this

-(4x+3y=23)

so 9y=45 and y=5

now find x:

4x+3(5)=23

4x+15=23

4x=8

So, hamburgers cost $2 and chicken nuggets $5.
