Sugar crystals WILL grow from a saturated solution if you give them a "seed" upon which to grow. One popular way to do this is to place a string in the solution as it cools and watch the sugar crystals form. When finished, you remove the string and you can then eat the "candy on a string". This is a popular science fair project for youngsters.
