At a funfair, there were 250 men. 3/7 of the rest of the people were women. Given that 1/2 of the people at the funfair were children, how many women were there?

T = T/2 + 250 + (3/7)(T-T/2-250) expand, combine like terms

T/2=250+ (3/7)(T/2)- (3/7(250)

T/2 -3T/14 = (4/7)(250 multiply by 14

7T -3T = 2000

T = 2000/4 = 500 Total

children 250 men 250

women = 0 = (3/7)(0)

Unless you meant 3/7 of the rest meant 3/7 x (T-250) not 3/7 x (T-T/2-250)

then

T = 250 + T/2 + (3/7)(T-250)

T/2 = 250 -(3/7)T - (3/7)250

T/2 +3T/7 = (4/7)250 multiply by 14

7T +6T = 2,000

Total = 2,000

250 men 1,000 children

3/7 of 750 = 3(750)/7 = 2250/7 = 321 3/7 women

= about 321 women
