Hi Monica,
Since the first equation has been written in terms of y, you can substitute the expression x + 2 into the second equation and solve for x.
y = x + 2
2x + y = 8
2x + x + 2 = 8
3x + 2 = 8
3x + 2 - 2 = 8 - 2
3x = 6
3x/3 = 6/3
x = 2
Now substitute 2 for x in either equation to find y:
y = x + 2
y = 2 + 2
y =4
The solution for this pair of equations is (2,4)
