The slope of a line is the "rise" over the "run". So, for your line with points (10,2) and (12,8), the slope can be found as follows:
y2 - y1 / x2 - x1 Slope Definition
8 - 2 / 12 - 10 Plugging in your coordinates
= 6 / 2 Raw answer
= 3 Simplify
The slope of your line = 3

It is important to know that RISE is the difference in y-coordinates of two points and RUN is the difference in the corresponding x-coordinates of those same two points.
