longer" 12
hypotenuse: 13
L=7+S
L^2 + S^2 = 13^2
(S+7)^2 + S^2 = 169
S^2 +14S + 49 +S^2 = 169
2S^2 +14S -120 = 0
S^2 + 7S -60 =0
(S+12)(S-5) = 0
S-5=0
S = 5 inches
L=5+7 = 12 inches
