I would say a lot of golfers do take lessons, especially those who are trying to get from beginner to intermediate. I don't do golfing lessons mainly because golf is already an expensive sport and since I already have a good understanding of the basics/at the intermediate level, lessons would not help me much unless I am going for the tour. I mainly look to improve myself and enjoy the sport at a decent cost and I can do that by either going to the driving range or playing the course myself.
Golfers, what's the number 1 reason you're not taking golf lessons?
The average golfer spends over $3K a year on golf-related expenses, yet only 10-11% of ALL golfers ever take lessons, why?

I feel the number one reason golfers don't take lessons is pride or ego. Many golfers prefer to figure out the game on their own, thinking that they can improve without any help. Some fear being judged or that they don't need instruction to get better. Also, with so many online videos out there they feel they can learn from just the videos alone. However, other factors to consider is cost, time involved and misunderstanding the value of quality instruction.

I think there are many reasons for this, but a couple stand out. First of all, buying new "stuff" is fun! New clubs, new balls, fix-it-quickly training aids...that's exciting! Secondly, lessons are a time commitment. Fixes won't happen in the first lesson or two; a player has to commit to multiple lessons before real progress is made!
