In simple terms, Le Chatelier's principle says that when a stress is applied to a system at equilibrium, the equilibrium will shift in a manner to relieve that stress. The overriding guide to predicting outcomes when changes (stresses) are imposed is to see where the stress in placed and then determine what direction the reaction needs to go in order to relieve or eliminate that stress. The impact on equilibrium is that the direction of the chemical reaction will change depending on the stress or change imposed.
