4 + 2.4x = 7 + 1.4x

x = 3 pounds of caramel to make a mixture of 8 pounds at $1.40 per pound

5(.8) + 3(2.4) = 8(1.4)

4 + 7.2 = 11.2

11.2 = 11.2 = $11.20 for 8 pounds of the mixture at $1.40 per pound
