1)     Calculate the mean and standard deviation of the male earnings of the data given above

2)     Give the interpretation of the standard deviation you got

3)     Compare the median and the mean you calculated.

4)     Why do they differ?

The mean was 98.05

the median is (99+102)/2 = 100.5

Unless you are told the stats are NORMALLY DISTRIBUTED,

the mean and median will differ, but will be CLOSE, as you see here
