asked 12/06/20If angle MNP is an equilateral triangle, find the values of x and y.
Imagine the triangle and picture this:
On the bottom left side there is M, on the top of the triangle there is N, and on the bottom right of the triangle there is P.
On the left side of the triangle from M to N there is a number 14 in the middle, under the letter N, inside the triangle the equation (5y - 5), and at the bottom of the triangle, there is the equation 3x - 4.
Sorry I could not add a picture or image to make it more clearer.

I'm thinking MP = 3x - 4 and Angle N = (5y - 5) degrees.
If that is correct then set 3x - 4 = 14 (in an equilateral triangle all the sides are congruent).
This would give x = 6.
Then set 5y - 5 = 60 ( in an equilateral triangle all the angles = 60 degrees).
This would give y = 13.
Hi Bryce L
If angle MNP is an equilateral triangle, find the values of x and y.
Where is the expression 3x - 4 at the bottom left, bottom right, inside under M or P? Are there units that go along with the number 14? While some assumptions could be made since you have listed an equilateral triangle still could use a little more information.
An Equilateral Triangle has all equal sides and angles so if 14 represents the length of one side then all the sides are 14.
If 5y - 5 and 3x -4 represent angles then
5y- 5 = 3x - 4
If MP = 3x - 4 and this expression represents a length instead of an angle
Then possible
3x - 4 = 14
Solving for x
3x = 18
x = 6
The angles in a Triangle total 180 degrees.
You can look up a Equilateral Triangle in your text or on the internet it may also be referred to as a Regular Triangle.
The Angles in an equilateral triangle are typically 60 degrees
then
5y - 5 = 60
5y = 60 + 5
5y = 65
y = 13.
With regard to my opening comment this is only recommendation I make based the information given. I hope it helps.
