In paralleogram ABCD, the diagonals AC and BD intersect at E. If BE= 4x-12 and DE= 2x+8 find x.

the diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other

therefore BE=DE

4x-12=2x+8

4x-12-2x=8

2x-12=8

2x=8+12

2x=20

x=20/2

x=10

Parallelograms are figures that have 2 pairs of congruent sides.  Therefore, BE and DE are equal because point E is the midpoint of  diagonal BD.
