So, you do just what the instructions tell you to do. Use a periodic table and find the atomic masses of each of the elements that make up the compound of interest and add them together.
MgCO3
Mg = 24.3
C = 12.0
O = 15.99 x 3 = 47.97
SUM = 24.3 + 12.0 + 47.97 = 84.3 g/mol = molar mass MgCO3
(NH4)3PO4
N = 14.0 x 3 = 42
H = 1.0 x 12 = 12
P = 31
O = 16 x 4 = 64
SUM = 42 + 12 + 31 + 64 = 149 g/mol = molas mass (NH4)3PO4
Sn3(PO4)4
Try it yourself and see if you get 736 g/mol
