Since you want the solution to be 50 g/L and you have only a 500 ml beaker (0.5 L), you will have to make half the volume, and thus will want to weigh out 25 g NaOH and dissolve it in sufficient water to make 0.5 L (500 ml). Normally you would use a 500 ml volumetric flask, but for your purpose, the 500 ml is good enough.
So, weigh out 25 g of NaOH, add it to the beaker and then add water to, say, the 250 ml or 300 ml mark. Stir the contents until the NaOH dissolves, and then add more water to the 500 ml mark. Warm the solution to 50ºC (which is 122º F).
