Student Council is selling tickets to the Winter Dance. Tickets cost $5 per person or $8 per couple. To cover expenses, at least $1200 worth of tickets must be sold. No more than 500 students can fit in the gym where the dance is being held.

Let x = number of $5 tickets

Let y = number of $8 tickets

In rows 5 and 6, write a system of inequalities to represent this situation.

In row 8, plot a point to show the solution to the system of inequalities you wrote in rows 5 and 6.

5x+8y≥1200 amount of money earned has to be more than or equal to 1200

x+2y≤500 the number of people has to be less than or equal to 500

An easy way to select a good point is by graphing the system into desmos, and then select a point that makes sense. Remember what x and y represent: it doesn't make sense for x or y to take a negative value.

One possible solution point is (0,250), 250 couples which makes for a total of 500 people and a total of $2000 since (8)(250)=2000.
