We are adding fractions that have uncommon denominators.   We need to find the LCD.  The LCD is 24.  Therefore we have

 

(-2x^-1 + 3)/12

 

 

Question 2

 

We distribute the negative sign.  We get

 

2/3 + (8y/9)

 

The LCD is 9.  So we have

 

(6 + 8y)/9

 

 

Question 3

 

When dividing by a fraction, we multiply by its reciprocal.  We have

 

[5/(8x)] * (16/7) =

 

80 / (56x)

 

 

Question 4

 

x - 8(7) + 10 / 5 = 9
