How do I create a database to manage the flow of members that move in and out of a particular position on a daily basis?

I'd like to type their name in a field and have it show up visually in a custom diagram. I'd like that information along with the date they entered the position and the date that they left show up in a database list as well. If I can create this for free online or perhaps in Microsoft Office or any Apple Software that would be wonderful. Thanks!
