Hello!
The line they give you is already in slope-intercept form (y=mx+b), which means that the number multiplied to the 'x' is the slope: -2
We want to use this slope for our line since parallel lines have the same slope and the question told us to make our new line equation parallel to their equation.
Now we can create a new line equation using this slope and the point they give you to use: (6,8)
This is the point-intercept form: y-y1=m(x-x1)
Leave the plain "y" and "x" alone as letters, replace the m with our slope number (-2), and replace y1 and x1 with the x & y from the point they give you:
y - 8 = -2 (x - 6) (distribute the -2)
y - 8 = -2x + 12 (neg times neg is pos) (then add 8 to both sides)
y = -2x + 20
