There is a typo in the denominator as there is a missing 1 before the + sign (clearly, a misprint, because you wouldn't have a + sign with nothing in front of it). This is the tan difference formula, or if you prefer, the tan sum formula, noting that tan -16° = - tan 16°. 76 - 16 = 60. As sin 60° = √3/2 and cos 60° = 1/2, tan 60° = √3/2/(1/2) = √3
