just do a quick rough sketch or graph
the point is 5 units above the line y=-3, directly above when x=5 (which is a coincidental 5 though)
the distance from point to line is found by calculating the distance of a perpendicular line to the given line
the perpendicular line is x=5 (a coincidental 5) but draw it and it's also 5 units away from the point on the line (5,-3), the closest point from (5,2) to y=-3
You'd get the same distance 5 from point to y=-3, if the point had been (10,2), (20,2), (-5,2) or any (x,-2) point with x = any real number.
