Prodedure:
copy (1) x 2: 2H2 + 2F2 ==> 4HF ... ∆H = 2 x -555.4 = -1110.8 kJ/mol
reverse (2): 2H2O ==> 2H2 + O2 ... ∆H = +572.4 kJ/mol
Add them:
2H2 + 2F2 + 2H2O ==> 4HF + 2H2 + O2
Combine and cancel like terms to get ...
2F2 + 2H2O ==> 4HF + O2 TARGET EQUATION
