C3H8 + 5O2 ==> 3CO2 + 4H2O ... balanced equation
We see from the balanced equation the it takes ONE MOLE of propane to produce THREE MOLES CO2.
So, we simply find out how many moles of CO2 we have 540 g and convert to moles of propane using this ratio of 1:3.
moles CO2 = 540 g CO2 x 1 mol CO2/44 g = 12.27 moles CO2
12.27 moles CO2 x 1 mol propane / 3 moles CO2 = 4.09 moles propane needed
So, answer would be 4.1 mol
