The structure found in the intervertebral foramen is the spinal nerve. The dorsal and ventral spinal roots emerge from the spinal cord and converge to form the spinal nerve. The spinal nerve then branches into ventral and dorsal rami which innervate structures in the trunk and limbs (ventral) or in the deep back (dorsal).
