For this problem, we can use the Ideal Gas Law PV = nRT
P = pressure = 2652 torr
V = volume = 1670 ml
n = moles = 0.684 moles
R = gas constant = 0.08206 L atm/K mol
T = temperature = ?
NOTE: the value of R has L (liters) and atm (atmospheres) as part of the units. So we MUST CONVERT volume to liters and pressure to atmospheres before we can use the gas law.
Volume = 1670 ml x 1 L/1000 ml = 1.670 L
Pressure = 2652 torr x 1 atm/760 torr = 3.489 atm
Now using the gas law and solving for T, we have
T = PV/nR = (3.489)(1.670) / (0.684)(0.08206)
T = 103.8 K (NOTE: units of temperature are in Kelvin) = 104K
Now we convert to ºC by subtracting 273º
104 - 273 = -169ºC
