Draw a diagram:
G H I = 3x
5x - 6 + 2
5x - 6 + 2 = 3x
5x - 4 = 3x
+4 +4 Add 4 to both sides to eliminate on the left
5x = 3x + 4 Subtract 3x from both sides to eliminate on the left
-3x -3x
2x = 4 Divide by 2
2 2
x = 2
We know that the WHOLE line would be 3 (2)
But they just want GH SO 5x - 6 = 5(2) - 6 10 - 6 = 4
GH = 4
