Design an experiment that you can use to answer a question about the factors that affect the activity of catalase enzyme. Make sure to include:
- The question you are trying to answer
- Which quantities you will change, and which quantities you will hold constant
- What will you measure?
- What data will you collect?
- How will you analyze your data?

1)The question that I am trying to answer is " what are the optimal conditions that affect the activity of the catalase enzyme ? "
(2) I will change the temperature, pH of the reaction mixture, substrate concentration, enzyme concentration one by one by fixing other parameters constant
(3) I will measure the temperature, pH, substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, and enzyme
(4) I will collect the data of temperatures, pH, substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, and enzyme and tabulate them
(5)I will analyze my data by plotting the following graphs
enzyme activity vs temperature
enzyme activity vs pH
enzyme activity vs substrate concentration
enzyme activity vs enzyme concentration
S.No. | temperature | substrate concentration | enzyme concentration | pH | enzyme activity |

This activity is meant to assess your understanding of the factors that affect enzyme activity and your understanding of the scientific method. So, write down experimental ideas concerning the factors that could affect enzyme activity, e.g. concentration of the substrate, temperature, pH. Then, design a test for each variable independently, making sure that you have a positive and negative control. Think about how you could test for catalase activity. Most aerobic organisms (including you!) have the catalase enzyme. Yeast is readily available and has an obvious catalase reaction with hydrogen peroxide. That should help you get started!
