How Do I cut text to an original outline in Illustrator?

I basically want to fill the outline of a human I drew with text. Is there a way I could cut or erase parts of the text so it lines up within my shape?

Select the text with your Selection Tool. Activate the Type menu and choose Create Outlines. You could also right click on the text when selected with the Selection Tool to access the Create Outlines command. That will make the text characters a vector shape instead of live type. Now you can cut any part of the path or edit any anchor points to achieve your design.
