distance square = sum of squares of the distances between the x and y coordinates
take the difference in x coordinates 10--3 = 13 and square it
take the difference in y coordinates 4--1 = 5 and square it
d^2 = (13)^2 + 5^2 = 169 + 25 = 194
d = sqr194 = almost 14 = approximately 13.8
the distance is the hypotenuse of a right triangle that has sides 13 and 5
You know it's going to be longer than 13. The hypotenuse is always longer than
either of the other 2 sides
