His observations when the wait time is as advertised can be represented by the equation 2|x − 2| − 12 = 0. Solve for the times when the serving time is as advertised, relative to noon. Let x represent the time before noon (x < 0) or after noon (x > 0)

If 2 l x - 2 l - 12 = 0, then l x - 2 l = 6. So, x - 2 = 6 or -6. Therefore, x = 8 or -4. That is, the serving time is as advertised at 8 PM (8 hours after noon) and at 8 AM (4 hours before noon).
