Hello, this is a segment addition problem, I find its helpful to draw a picture on these types of problems:

So the way you set this problem up you add the two pieces of the segment and set it equal to the whole length of the segment:

AB + BC = AC

2x + (x - 2) = 28 (Plug in your values)

3x - 2 = 28 (Combine like terms)

3x = 30 (Add two to both sides)

x = 10 (Divide by 3)
