There are 45 applications for 3 manager positions. How many groups of 3 people can be selected for the positions.

This is the number of permutations, when the order DOES make a difference. What we need here is to find the number of different unordered groups of 3 that could be chosen (combinations). This means we need to take the product shown in the original answer and divide it by 3! (that is, 6).
