The perimeter of a rectangulr playing field is 462 yards.

The Length of the field is 9 yd Less then quadruple the width. What are the dimensions of the field

P = (2 • Width) + (2 • Length).

We can plug into the equation to solve for the Width and thus we will have the dimensions.

462 yards = 2W + 2(9 yards)

462 yards = 2W + 18 yards

-18 yards -18 yards

subtract 18 from both sides to isolate the term with the width

444 yards = 2W

÷2 ÷2

Divide both sides by 2 to isolate the variable for width

222 yards = W

So the width is 222 yards and the length is 9 yards.

We can verify this by checking that

2(222 yards) + 2(9 yards) = 462 yards
