asked 08/16/20The Illiad Story
In the Iliad, there is a a division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different, between war and peace, suffering and understanding. How can this contrast be related to a current global issue?

The deeper answer is that the division only exists when we impose it on reality. Consider Achilles, who commis outrages on Hector's body because of his us-vs-them mentality. But in the end he releases the body to Priam once Priam and he meet and recognize each other's grief and loss. Similarly now, when the conflicts we see are made worse by an us-vs-them mentality.

Hi Scott, I have an answer for you but I'm not sure that suffering and understanding, even within the context of the text, are opposite emotions. Can you be more specific :) Just not sure how suffering and emotion are comprable at all! Laura B.08/18/20
