A z-score tells you how much a number is different from your mean. Z-scores are measured in terms of standard deviations (i.e., one standard deviation away from the mean can be 1 or -1, depending on which direction it goes in). Therefore, if the father’s height is 1.9 standard deviations higher, the z-score will be 1.9 as well.
