I do think that some companies possess the 'DNA' to continually stay on top of the the technology leadership they have historically demonstrated. Some companies have shown this to be true across a number of industries: Fresenius, Apple, Microsoft, and DC Comics, citing a diverse subset.... However, disruptive exogenous forces will always be at play and, as such, being caught flat-footed and overtaken by a creative newcomer is always a risk. The likelihood in the long-run is therefore that a company will fall from its leadership perch.
