The salesman salary = base salary + commission
base salary = 950
commission = 0.06*(sales-1700) <----- he gets 6% of sales above 1700.
so the salesman salary = 950 + 0.06*(sales-1700)
If the salesman wants a salary of 1700, then
1700 = 950 + 0.06*(sales-1700)
Now solve the above equation to find 'sales' which is the amount he needs to sell to get a salary of 1700.
