The parent for a linear function is f(x) = x (aka y = x) and is graphed as the diagonal line going from lower left to upper right:
The function f(x) = -3x - 2 is then flipped over the x-axis (that's what the negative sign in front of the 3 does), then stretched in the vertical direction by a factor of 3 (that's what the 3 in front of the "x" does), then moved down 2 units (that's what the "-2" does).
