No! Methane gas (CH4) and any hydrocarbon can react with oxygen to form CO2 and H2O. The reaction is called combustion and it would be written as CH4 + O2 ---> CO2 + H2O. We would put a "2" in front of the water and a "2" in front of the O2 to balance the equation, so CH4+ 2O2---> CO2 + 2H2O, For the baking soda/acetic acid reaction, the equation is Na2CO3 + CH3CO2H----->NaCH3CO2 +H2O + CO2. Put a "2" in front of the CH3CO2H and the equation will be balanced, Na2CO3 + 2CH3CO2H--->2NaCH3CO2 + CO2 +H2O.
