I have done that and it always came out as -11 and I am not sure if that is right..

Check you math. m1=3. m2=-(2+c)/3, m1m1=-1=-(2+c), c =?

I gave you all the relevant equations step by step, with all the numbers in the equations. At this point, you just have to do the arithmetic.

c= -1 and then I plugged it into the formula and got 1/-3 which is the right answer. but i have a question so i know how to do this later on by myself. in this problem you used the formula y1-y2 / x1-x2 why didn't you use any other one. and where did this negative at the start of -(2+c) come from? thank you for helping me out . it's good to see that there is people who are helping others still.

Your first question: If you are given 2 points, you have x1,y1,x2,y,2, so (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) is the natural formula to use. Second question: When you calculate m2, you should get m2=(-2-c)/3=-(2+c)/3.
