Since we know her making the team is true, it is simple probability. 18 are on the team and 3 can be captain. So 3/18 is her chance to be made captain which reduces to 1/6.

Your problem is called Conditional Probability. This is defined as "the probability of an event occurring, given that another event has already occurred."
The "given" in your problem is that Julie already made the team.
So P(Julie will be captain | Julie made the team) is simply 3/18, which reduces to 1/6.
The answer is D.
