A sprinter starting from rest on a straight and level track is able to achieve a speed of 13 m/s in a time of 6.1 s. What is the sprinter's average acceleration?

Acceleration is the change in speed per unit of time.

 

So he goes from 0 to 13 m/s, which is a change of 13 m/s.  He does this in 6.1 seconds, so his average acceleration is 13/6.1 = 2.13 m/sec²
