This problem is unclear. I will leave this: If it means X+16= 3X-24 then this is how to solve:


X+16=3X-24

X-3X+16= 3X-3X-24

-2X+16 = -24

-2X+16-16= -24-16

-2X = -40

-2x/-1= -40/-1

2X = 40

x=20


If you are adding the two terms, it is unclear what the sum is equal to. :)
